Already home to over 7,000 residents, Leisure World of Maryland is the largest active adult community in the DC metropolitan area. The self-contained community is located on a 620-acre site off Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring, Maryland, conveniently near to the nation’s capital, shopping, restaurants, and perhaps most importantly, the former homes of many of its residents. LWMD provides homes to a market largely made up of local residents who wish to move into a more convenient and secure environment while preserving ties to nearby family and friends. In addition to providing safety and maintenance services, LWMD provides versatile and lush homes, defying the stereotype of restrictive senior communities.
Beginning with The Greens, HLS has been designing luxury condominiums for Leisure World of Maryland for over a decade. The condominium units, which are all owned by their residents, come in a variety of floor plans that range from traditional rooms to more unconventional open layouts. All floor plans offer the added pleasures of fireplaces, wide views, and optional glass-enclosed terraces, a unique innovation of HLS Architects that allows the resident to enjoy the convenience of an additional room while admitting light into the other rooms and still maximizing the view. Some residents choose to further customize their units by working with the developer as well as HLS to merge two units or modify a preexisting floor plan.
Subsequent projects at Leisure World of Maryland include The Fairways, Villa Cortese, Turnberry Courts, Vantage Point, and The Overlook. Work has also begun on the Leisure World of Virginia.

LWMD Clubhouse
Within the two Clubhouses located in Leisure World of Maryland, there are almost a hundred activities for the residents to participate in each week. For the general use of the Leisure World residents, HLS has designed facilities including an indoor swimming pool, an auditorium, tennis courts, and bowling lanes. Combined with the convenience and luxury of an on-site golf course and the beauty of the surrounding nature, landscaping, and architecture, the amenities of Leisure World of Maryland are anything but ordinary.

LWMD Sales Office
The sales office of LWMD, located to the immediate right of the security gate at the community’s entrance, features three-dimensional models of the community, as well as floor plans and furnished model units of the projects that are currently being sold. The model units are changed with each new building that is introduced, to represent the best and most current of LWMD’s condominiums. When the last of the high-rise buildings have been completed, the sales office will be converted into an additional condominium building, in order to offer additional units for LWMD’s growing market.
