Leisure World of Virginia

Located in Lansdowne, Virginia, Leisure World of Virginia is a recreation-oriented community for active, independent residents over the age of 55, modeled after Leisure World of Maryland, which already houses over 7,000 senior residents. LWVA draws upon the local community, those who wish to retire to a more convenient home without losing the luxuries of space, security, and privacy, and while remaining close to friends and family. In addition to meeting this need, LWVA features innovative and appealing condominiums at a low price that make this form of age-restricted housing particularly attractive. Upon its completion, LWVA will have 2,000 units within its 12 luxury condominium buildings, owned by approximately 3,000 residents, making it the largest senior community ever created in the state of Virginia. There will be 7 high-rise buildings and 5 low-rise buildings within the 84-acre self-contained community.

HLS has been designing the buildings of LWVA from its creation, beginning with the Riverbend, an 11-story high-rise that opened for occupancy in March of 1998. Since then, HLS has also designed Blue Ridge, the Magnolias, and Potomac Ridge. In addition to the asset of great building designs, half of the 84-acre LWVA property will be preserved as open space for the residents to enjoy in the forms of nature trails, gardens, and tennis courts. All of the LWVA residents will have the opportunity to enjoy the surrounding environment and ammenities. The site, perched on a wooded ridge overlooking the Potomac River, offers wonderful views of the river, nearby parkland, and the adjacent Blue Ridge Mountains. Conveniently located within the 2,300-acre planned Lansdowne community will be a Robert Trent Jones, Jr. 18-hole championship golf course, the Lansdowne Resort, and the Loudon Hospital Center and Medical Facility, all within convenient walking distance of Leisure World. Leisure World of Virginia received the 1997 award for Best Retirement Community/Active Environment by the Northern Virginia Building Industry Association and the Suburban Maryland Building Industry Association.

LWVA Clubhouses
In addition to the surrounding natural beauty and conveniences, Leisure World provides 2 clubhouses for the use of its residents and guests. Clubhouse West, the first of two at Leisure World of Virginia, is a double level fitness, health, and recreational facility containing an equipped exercise room, two pools and a whirlpool, locker rooms, and lounging areas. There are also facilities for recreation and education, such as classrooms, studios, an auditorium, and a library equipped with computers to support the various hobbies and interests of its patrons. Within the clubhouse are valuable conveniences such as a hair salon, a convenience store, a bank, and a post office. The clubhouse features floor to ceiling glass windows in order to take advantage of the surrounding view and let in natural light. The colorful indoor swim center gives the impression of European luxury, with its painted columns and detailed renderings of friezes, while incorporating the beauty of the surrounding greenery and architecture.

LWVA Sales Office
The sales office of LWVA, located immediately within the ivy-covered entrance to the community, features a vaulted main room containing building models, floor plans, and a lounge area. Through a glass-enclosed walkway, another section of the sales office houses furnished model condominiums that change with each new building that is introduced. When the last of the buildings has been sold, the LWVA sales office, like many of Holle & Lin's previous sales offices, will be converted into more condominiums to provide extra living space for potential LWVA residents.
